We held our world kidney day CME event conducted by Nephrology Department & Department of General Medicine-Organized by Dr. Ravi Kumar Sr. Consultant Nephrologist, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College & Hospital, Madagadipet, Puducherry & Dr. Girija Gopal, Professor & HOD, Medicine Department. A CME was organized on 11.03.2026 at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College & Hospital Campus. Our Guest speakers were Dr. Joseph Johnny MD, DM, Associate Professor of Nephrology, CMC Vellore, spoke on CKDu,  Dr. Thiagarajan Thandavan, CEO, TIDES Institute, Chennai, spoke on intro to Apheresis, Prof. Girija Gopal Prof & HOD, Medicine,  Introduction of WKD 26 theme, Dr. Ravi Kumar, Sr. Consultant Nephrologist, SMVMCH spoke on Environmental Nephrology & the Future.

We were ably assisted by & Dr. Gavaskar, Dr. Shalu, Dr. Anbarasi, Dr. Hemraj, PG – Gen. Medicine &  Mr. Adhimoolam and other staff from the Nephrology department.  Poster Competition was held to the Dialysis Technician students. Posters were displayed in the Auditorium. The best posters were selected by Dr. Joseph Johnny MD, DM, Associate Professor of Nephrology, CMC vellore & Dr. Thiagarajan Thandavan, CEO, TIDES Institute, Chennai.  Total of 135 delegates attended the CME Programme.

Patient Interactive Educational Meet

Patient Interactive Educational Meet
Event Name: Patient Interactive Educational Meet

In continuity with the Department of Nephrology’s thrust towards patient centric case, yet another patient Focused– Interactive didactic patient Educational Meeting was hosted at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Hospital, Madagadipet, Puducherry at the Basement Auditorium on 24th February 2026.  This 2 hours session was a very informative, educative and patient empowering session.
As usual we were lucky to have in our midst the Principal speaker Dr. Thyagarajan Thandavan, CEO, TIDES Institute LLC as from Chennai.  This is a triannual meet conducted by Dept. of Nephrology since last 9 years. Dr. Thyagarajan provided lot of patient friendly healthcare tips and facilitated discussions with patients, caregivers and staff, providing valuable insight and delved through patient and family experiences.
Dr. Girija Gopal, Prof. & HOD, Medicine Dept. and Deputy Medical Superintendent graced the occasion this time also as she has been a pillar of strength for our dialysis patients since inception of these meetings. Other speaker included Dr. Ravikumar HOD, Dept. of Nephrology also interacted with patients.  This is a unique feature of our bonding & interactive with our patients of families.  All the doubts and queries from patients & attenders were addressed in depth & length.
These meeting buttressed the importance of patient education, communication, removal of barriers hindering patient care & thus going a long way in improving patient care and rendering patient satisfaction. Total of 60 patients/attenders (care givers) & staffs attended the Programme.

These meetings are the core of patient education. Active collaboration between staffs & patients were advocated.  Patients & their caregivers were given free use of the microphone & anecdotal episodes and issues close to their heart were presented by them.  A family fulcrum was thus maintained evenly.  Many issues pertaining to patient care were addressed in a thread bare manner.  These sort of interactive educational meetings will go a long way in fostering & empowering patients to go ahead in a patient-centric model of health care where the patient is in the driving seat & is responsible for their own health.

Detect Early, Protect Kidney Health,”.

We were ably assisted by Dr. Sugan Gandhi Asst. Professor of Nephrology, SMVMCH & Dr. Gavaskar, Dr. Ezhil kumar, Dr. A. Naveen, Mr. Adhimoolam and other staff from the Nephrology department. Poster Competition was held to the Dialysis Technician students. posters were displayed in the Auditorium. The best posters were selected by Dr. A. Poster Competition was held to the Dialysis Technician students. posters were displayed in the Auditorium. The best posters were selected by Dr. A. Venkatesh, Assistant Professor of Nephrology, AVMC & Dr. Thiagarajan Thandavan, CEO, TIDES Institute, Chennai. Total of 114 delegates attended the CME Programme.

As a part of it, a lecture on “How to frame Research Question in Anaesthesia” was conducted in specialty OT Class room. Dr.Parthasarathy professor Department of Anaesthesiology, MGMCRI, Puducherry, who is a research faculty in the field of Anaesthesia with more than 300 publications to his credit delivered a lecture through webinar about 50 postgraduates and 20 faculties participated.

Master Class on “low flow Anaesthesia”

The Master Class on Low Flow Anaesthesia, held on September 14, 2024, at the Simulation Center, was a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program designed to enhance knowledge and skills in anesthesiology. The event was organized by the Department of Anesthesiology, featuring leading experts in the field. The simulation center provided an interactive and hands-on learning environment, allowing for a rich exchange of ideas and experiences among faculty and postgraduate participants. Nearly 70 delegates including postgraduates and Faculties from various Medical College in Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry participated in it. Key points covered included the fundamental principles of Low Flow Anaesthesia, including its benefits such as decreased consumption of volatile anesthetics and reduced exposure to waste gases.

Detailed discussions on various techniques for implementing low flow rates, including adjustments in gas flow and monitoring parameters, were provided, along with practical applications and considerations for different types of surgeries. The resource faculty highlighted the clinical implications of adopting Low Flow Anaesthesia, emphasizing its role in improving patient outcomes and optimizing resource use.

Hands-on training was facilitated by the Simulation Center, where participants could practice low flow techniques under the guidance of the experts. This interactive component was crucial for reinforcing theoretical knowledge with practical skills.

In conclusion, the Master Class on Low Flow Anaesthesia was a significant educational event, contributing valuable insights and practical skills to attendees. The expertise of Dr.Nagalakshmi P, Dr.Prasanna Bidkar, and Dr.Hemanth Kumar, combined with the interactive environment of the Simulation Center, ensured a comprehensive learning experience for all participants. The program successfully met its objectives of advancing knowledge and enhancing the practice of anesthesiology.

Nearly 200 delegates attended the CME and 84 delegate attended the workshop.

Description of the Event

“World Anaesthesia Day” was celebrated on 16.10.2024. As a part of the  occasion various events were conducted.

A public display ( Poster) about the field of Anaesthesia to create awareness among public was done in the Hospital.

A social outreach activity was conducted in Around 80 people were sensitized & demonstrative how to give basic life support. (BLS)

A talk by Postgraduates on Pioneers of Anaesthesiology was conducted from 11.00 PM to 4.00 PM in the Department.
