Speaker: Dr. Sudha Seshayyan, Director, Sastra Chennai Campus Vice Chairperson, Central Institute of Classical Tamil, Chennai and Former Vice-Chancellor, the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai
The Scientific Society (SS) of SMVMCH, an association dedicated to academic excellence, hosted its annual Oration on April 23, 2026. Known as a vital platform where postgraduates showcase their research works, the Society continued its tradition of fostering intellectual growth by featuring a keynote address from the eminent Dr. Sudha Seshayyan.
The proceedings opened with a welcome address by Dr. Vijay Sankar (Joint Secretary, SS), followed by a formal introduction from Dr. Udhaya Sankar (Secretary,SS). Dr. Udhaya Sankar detailed Dr. Seshayyan’s storied career as the Director of Sastra Chennai Campus, Vice Chairperson of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil, and former Vice-Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. The introduction highlighted her global academic contributions, including her role on the editorial boards of Gray’s Anatomy and her work translating the Britannica Concise

Medical University. The introduction highlighted her global academic contributions, including her role on the editorial boards of Gray’s Anatomy and her work translating the Britannica Concise

Encyclopaedia into Tamil. Beyond medicine, she was recognized as a spiritual scholar who had the unique honor of having her Tamil translation of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s book released by the late President himself. Shri Dhanasekaran, Chairman of the SMVE Trust, felicitated the guest speaker, noting her prestigious accolades, including being the first Indian woman to deliver the Convocation address at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and receiving the Kalaimamani and Stree Ratna awards for her multifaceted contributions. In her oration titled "Bibliotherapy: Relevance Then and Now," Dr. Seshayyan captivated the audience by exploring the healing power of literature. She bridged the gap between ancient wisdom and modern clinical science, illustrating how bibliotherapy remains a vital resource for mental and emotional well-being today.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Roobhini Sri (Assistant Secretary, SS), who thanked the dignitaries and the postgraduates. The high-profile event was graced by the presence of the Director, Dean academic, Dean Research, Medical Superintendent (MS), and the Deputy Dean, reflecting the academic significance of the gathering.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. M. Chenniappan, Senior consultant cardiologist at the Ramakrishna Medical Centre, Trichy. Dr. Chenniappan emphasized the critical need for healthcare professionals to prioritize their own physical and mental well-being amidst demanding clinical responsibilities. He urged the community to foster a culture of compassion, peer support, and proactive wellness to ensure that those who heal are not left unhealed themselves.

The Annual Meet of the Scientific Society for the Academic Year 2024–2025 was successfully conducted on 17th December 2025 at SMVMCH Lecture Hall – 6, College Side. The meeting witnessed enthusiastic participation from Scientific Society members, including faculty and postgraduate students from all clinical, pre-clinical, and para-clinical departments.

Event Proceedings

The program commenced with a prayer song, invoking blessings for the successful conduct of the meeting. This was followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. R. Udhaya Sankar, Joint Secretary, Scientific Society, who warmly welcomed the Chief Guest, dignitaries, faculty members, and postgraduate students.

Topic: Who am I? My journey with haemophilia

An oration event centered on Hemophilia was organized by the Scientific Society of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, aimed at educating and raising awareness about this genetic disorder on 9th April 2024

Speaker Introduction: Dr. T. Preethi, the Assistant secretary of the scientific society introduced the guest speakers, acknowledging their esteemed positions and contributions to the medical field.

Keynote Speaker:Padma Shree Prof. (Dr) P. Nalini, who is the Founder President of Haemophilia society, Puducherry chapter and Director Professor of Pediatrics, JIPMER (Retd.), a luminary in medical research, delivered the keynote address, sharing her valuable journey and experiences with Hemophilia.

Attendees: The event saw active participation from faculty, students, and medical professionals, reflecting a collective commitment to learning and patient care.

Honouring the Speaker: The speaker was honoured by Dr. D. Rajagovindan, the Director of the institute, in the presence of Dr. K. Karthikeyan (Dean Academic), Dr. P. Sanjay (Dean Research), and Dr. M. Pragash (Medical Superintendent) acknowledging her significant contributions to the field.
