Time: 2:00 P.M

Hands on Workshop for suturing for postgraduates was organized by the department of Radio-Diagnosis, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College and Hospital, on 04.06.2026.
The workshop was held at the Third Floor Skill lab, college block. 25 Postgraduates & 15 faculties from the department of Radiodiagnosis & Surgery participated. The session was conducted by Department of Radiodiagnosis & Department of surgery.
The session began with an introduction to the fundamental principles of surgical suturing, including the indications for wound closure, types of suture materials, and the basic surgical instruments used during the procedure. Emphasis was placed on maintaining aseptic technique, proper tissue handling, and the principles of optimal wound healing.
This was followed by a live demonstration of various suturing techniques, where participants observed the correct handling of needle holders, forceps, and scissors, along with proper needle placement, knot tying, and wound approximation. In addition, the technique of drain fixation using sutures was demonstrated, highlighting the methods of securing surgical drains to the skin, appropriate knot placement, and measures to prevent accidental drain dislodgement while ensuring patient comfort and effective postoperative drainage.
Post-procedural aspects, including assessment of wound closure and drain security, postoperative wound and drain care, suture and drain removal, and the recognition and management of potential complications such as infection, wound dehiscence, drain displacement, and tissue ischemia, were also discussed.
The session concluded with a summary of the essential principles of suturing and drain fixation, highlighting key points for safe and effective wound management. The workshop encouraged active interaction with postgraduate students, providing opportunities for hands-on practice, clarification of doubts, and discussion of practical challenges encountered during surgical wound closure and drain management.

Mammography Bus services (Mobile breast imaging unit):

Mobile mammography services are utilized to provide accessible breast cancer screening, especially in rural and underserved areas. These units are equipped with digital mammography systems and staffed by trained radiology personnel. The initiative focuses on early detection of breast lesions, increasing community awareness, and reducing morbidity and mortality associated with breast cancer.
Regular outreach programmes are conducted to extend radiological services and health education to the community. These include screening camps, awareness sessions on common diseases (such as breast cancer, tuberculosis, and vascular disorder), and collaboration with primary healthcare centers. The programmes aim to promote early diagnosis, preventive healthcare, and equitable access to imaging services.
